Born in 1975, a month before the Fall of Saigon, she and her family escape to America. Now in her mid-twenties, with a promising career at the prestigious Geo-Hazards Institute, she lives in Southern California with her aging mother and too-perfect sister, Ana. Their father, weakened by the war, died several years before. The story, as told through her eyes, explores the relationships between mothers and daughters, sisters, and lovers. Mai examines herself and those close to her with a keen sense of humor and unflinching honesty. Her search for truth and meaning proves alternately funny and heart-breaking.
