ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Genuine artist, indomitable spirit, fervorous activist... Everything in Tina Modotti’s life contributed to her becoming a legend.

Passionate and impetuous, Tina had a unique personality. Born in Italy at the end of the nineteenth century, and after a brief time in Hollywood where she worked as an actress, Tina arrived in Mexico right in the midst of the vibrant culture of the nineteen twenties.

She joined in the artistic and political reflections of creators and intellectuals of the time: Edward Weston, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Frida Kahlo, to name a few. Here she would find the courage and the necessary inspiration to explore an ideal format to express her commitment and indignation in the face of social injustice—photography.

But even stronger than her character and her work were her fervent anti-fascist ideals, which she firmly upheld until her tragic death, the cause of which remains a mystery.
