The Treasury - SynopsisIt is the end of the IRS as we know it when a senior member of the US Treasury Department gets caught in a clever scheme to extort nearly a billion dollars from unsuspecting taxpayers. If you think this can't happen, think again.Arthur Cambridge hates the Government. Ever since his father died in the middle of a bogus Tax Court hearing, he swore he would take revenge on the IRS. When Arthur's former boss at the CIA was appointed by President Bill Perkins to the position of Treasury Secretary, he was brought in as Deputy Treasury Secretary, responsible for the IRS. Perfect, he thought. He in turn gets in touch with a former CIA operative, named Michelle Kiplinger, whom he worked with at the CIA. He sets her up in a company called GES Resource Consulting, a front for his elaborate extortion scheme. GES stands for Government Employment Service which was established to recruit convicted felons who had some financial or accounting background and get them hired as Revenue Agents at the IRS. They became part of the extortion ring, code-named Pegasus, set up by Arthur. Using a clever means of extorting money from unsuspecting taxpayers, the organization sets out to build a network of over a hundred agents, who together rake in an incredible fortune, all deposited in Cayman Island bank accounts.Toni Perelli was one such revenue agent. While traveling to Gary Decker's house one evening to make a score, he is killed in a tragic traffic accident, along with Gary's girlfriend's husband, a pilot with United Airlines. His death caused the exposure of the Pegasus organization to the Administration's appointed FBI, CIA and NSA Directors. They, in turn, conspire to cover up the extortion ring since it was deeply rooted within the IRS, and exposure of the crimes could cause the collapse of the Government. Gary is framed for the extortion ring and is tried and convicted in Federal Court in an intense, suspense filled trial. Robin and Gary end up getting married both out of love and, as it turns out, necessity. Robin, an FBI employee, sets out to clear Gary's name and faces cataclysmic hurdles in doing so.When Arthur finds out that his ring had been exposed, he tries escaping on his one hundred and fifty foot yacht, named Polaris, to the Cayman's. He finds out in the process that his longtime mistress, Frederica, had managed to steal all the money he had accumulated after he dumped her in preparation for retiring to the islands. The 'Gang of Seven' as they became known, comprised the core members of the President's intelligence organization. They must find a way to cover up the extortion or the Government, or more specifically their Administration, could collapse. They engage the military to capture Arthur Cambridge or kill him, along with the entire network he has established. What follows takes the reader on an E-Ticket ride through the perils of Government terrorism which rains down upon Gary, Robin, and the others involved who seek to expose the Government crimes. Everyone who enjoys horrific, surprise endings along with a heavy dose of military technology is going to love how The Treasury ends up. You won't be disappointed.
