Trucking Made Better

This book is my critique of the latest Congressional actions that demonstrate that once personal liberties and freedoms are curtailed by government, that control is not easily given back, even in the face of the very scientific evidence that such control is based on.In a nutshell, driver's personal liberties and freedoms are curtailed by limiting the amount of driving hours in any one week. Scientific evidence quoted in government reports state that the original conclusions that created the restrictions were incorrect, yet political leaders choose to quote increased safety numbers that are largely based on a collection of safety rules, rather than the specific driving limitations of weekly driving hours enacted by Congress. The reports show that drivers who get 10 hours of daily rest do not accumulate sleep deprivation, and the 36 hour mandatory break after 70 weekly working hours, only hurt the transportation industry (not just the drivers) as a whole. I open the door to lifting the restriction through justified debate, with the added safety net of using OSHA instead of federal regulations that complicate the industry and limit the creation of wealth. I also touch on other regulatory matters of interest. Even if you do not agree with the subject matter, the book is a classic example of how political power is used to limit personal and business freedoms, and that once that liberty is taken, Congress may not give it back without considerable effort and mass participation by all those that are affected, and those who care.
