Thomas Embly Osmun (1826-1902) who also wrote under the pseudonym Alfred Ayres, was an American author and orthoepist. He spent six years in Europe where he was educated at Oberlin College. He devoted himself to orthoepy and the art of elocution. His works include: The Verbalist (1881), The Mentor (1884), The Essentials of Elocution (1886) and Acting and Actors: Elocution and Elocutionists (1903).
