How have scientists in Europe been involved in Africa? Have colonial knowledge systems and teaching and research paradigms changed in the course of political decolonization? What happened to the traditional institutions of colonial science? And what role did local and national factors and the relationship between science, politics and economy play in the formation of African Studies? Felix Brahm addresses these issues from a local and transnational comparative perspective. Six university sites in Germany and France are the focus of his inquiry: Berlin, Bordeaux, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig and Paris. He looks at both developments in the framework of interdisciplinary studies as well as at the context of individual disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. German text.
