Adeline

So, my journey began with a list of what to bring, how much to bring, and who to tell, which ended up to be no one. Other than food and clothing and the normal things, I would bring my books, my music, and a nice new journal--one that I would use to chronicle the adventures I planned to have throughout the seasons of the coming year. I would fill it with memories and stories and words intended to be read by my family, particularly after I'm gone. Words that would remind them of the beauty and preciousness of life. Words that would remind them of what's important and what is not. This was my plan and I could hardly wait to get started. At eighty-seven years old, Adeline is determined to leave the comfort and complacency of her assisted living center and set out on one last adventure. She heads to the lake house, where her family spent so many summers, with the goal of living out the year there. The memories of her past seem to haunt her at every turn, unfolding in vivid detail as she recalls the people and events that shaped her life.
