The American College and University

First published in 1962, Frederick Rudolph's groundbreaking study,The American College and University, remains one of the most useful and significant works on the history of higher education in America. Frederick Rudolph is Mark Hopkins Professor of History Emeritus at Williams College, where he was chair of the American Studies Program from 1971 to 1980.  John R. Thelin is University Research Professor of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Kentucky.
