Built to Fly

Through the lens of natural beauty and the elements of nature, Corinne Walsh shares her curiosity and wonder in exploring the themes of love and loss. Ever wonder why birds are blessed with the ability to fly while we remain earth bound? Ever consider what we would do with the freedom of flight? Our own perspectives of nature are often more reflective of who we are than what we see. The poems in "Built to Fly" highlight the natural world as a mirror to our own emotional aspirations.

Corinne Walsh is a poet in progress. She earned a Pushcart Prize nomination for short fiction in 2006, then stopped writing to raise her family. Covid-19 brought writing back into her life. Her first chapbook, THE BOOK OF LU (March 2022), was a collaborative effort with photographer LuAnne Underhill, chronicling the journey of a long distance relationship. Since then, her poetic dialogue about love and loss, and the irrepressible connection to the natural world has continued. Walsh collected The Tomahawk Creek Review's 2023 summer poetry prize, as well as placing 2nd in the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival's summer 2023 poetry competition. Her poems have also appeared in "eunoia review," Bluebird Word," and "Abandoned Mine." She is most at home near the ocean, and enjoys rowing and exploring lighthouses.
