Sometimes a cloud can appear to be something other than a cloud. This is the story about a dog named Harvest who has discovered the ability to use her imagination to see images in clouds.
One day, Harvest learns about dragons while playing with two of her favorite people, Eric and Adam, a couple of young brothers who take her on an adventure in the back yard. The highlight of the adventure occurs when the boys engage in a spirited encounter with an imaginary dragon and are able to chase it away. While Harvest can't see the dragon, she hears the boys describe it, which gives her an idea of what dragons look like.
Later that day, while chasing her favorite squirrel nemesis named Ripple, Harvest encounters what she believes to be a dragon. However, to her embarrassment, this dragon turns out to be a large limb that had fallen from the oak tree in the back yard. Ripple takes the opportunity to tease Harvest, leaving her a bit crestfallen, but when she gets back to her people, they lift her spirits by giving her snacks.
At bedtime on this night when Harvest had learned about dragons, she looks out the window and sees a cloud that she thinks resembles one. Recalling the dragon stick incident, she dismisses this as her imagination playing tricks on her again and goes to lay down to sleep. However, she soon discovers that this dragon is real, or so it seems, as she has actually drifted into a dream that she is unaware she is having.
In an effort to protect the boys from being awakened and frightened by the dragon, Harvest ventures into the back yard to confront him. She finds out that the dragon's name is Nebulous, a name he was given due to his unusual nature of appearing to be a cloud when he flies. When Nebulous decides to chase Harvest around the back yard, a couple of calamities befall him. These turn out to be teaching moments with some of life's hard knocks lessons learned by both Nebulous and Harvest, the best of which is the discovery of the friendship that had developed between them while they were learning the lessons together.
The Author's Notes at the end of the book explore the Chinese Hanzi symbols associated with the names of some of the characters in the story, and also explore the history and nature of Constellations, one of which is included in one of the illustrations in the story.
With 46 illustrations.
