Paul Dry Books is pleased to bring back into print Xan Fielding's classic--though notoriously hard-to-find--memoir of the resistance on Crete during World War II. Xan Fielding(1918-1991) was a British writer and traveller, and a lifelong friend of Patrick Leigh Fermor, who served with him in Crete during WWII. (The introduction to Fermor's A Time of Giftsis written as a "Letter to Xan Fielding.") Fielding also translated many novels from the French, the most famous among them The Bridge on the River Kwaiand The Planet of the Apes.
