Masterworks of Chinese Art

Including masterpieces from every period of Chinese art, the Chinese collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is celebrated as one of the finest outside Asia. This catalogue presents a selection of works ranging in date from the second millennium B.C.E. to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The selection is representative of the central traditions of Chinese art--ancient jade carving and ritual bronzes, ceramics, Buddhist sculpture, scroll painting, lacquer and textiles--and includes world-famous works such as A Solitary Temple in Clearing Mountainsattributed to Li Cheng (c. 919-967) and the 12th-century Guanyin of the Southern Seas.
