This book is the story of Japanese American citizen's participation in and experience of the events of World War II and the Korean War, both at home and abroad. Even though the exploits of these "Nisei" soldiers are not widespread public knowledge, there can be little doubt that the participation of Japanese American citizens in World War II was one of the decisive factors in bringing this war to an end. The essays herein chronicle the exploits of these brave soldiers as they fought for their country despite being distrusted and incarcerated and otherwise deprived of their civil rights by the U.S. government and much of the rest of the population. Written by a professor of Asian American history who is a Japanese American himself and an eye-witness to the attack on Pearl Harbor, as well as a retired U.S. Army colonel who served with the occupation force of Japan, these essays are rich in fresh detail and perspective on the "Great War" as well as the Korean War.
