These unusual and intriguing stories of interactions between Chinese and non-Chinese are the work of author Miodrag Kojadinovic, born in Serbia and for eight years a teacher of English in a remote corner of China.

Miodrag Kojadinovic is a writer and teacher born in Serbia. He has studied, researched in, and taught linguistics and anthropology at universities and colleges in Serbia, Canada, the Netherlands, Hungary, Latvia, Norway, Turkey and – between 2005-2014 – in China (both the Mainland and Macau). His career as a writer began in the 1980s when, as a university student, he published a paper on micro-toponyms and people’s nicknames in the town in which his great-grandfather had been mayor in the 1930s. Since then his poetry, short stories, other academic papers, erotica, opinion pieces, reviews, and columns have appeared in Serbian, English, Dutch, French, Russian, Portuguese, Chinese, Slovene, Hungarian, Hebrew, Frisian, and German in 23 countries of Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania. He has also translated three books (one of rhyming poetry, shortlisted for the annual award for translation), and edited two – an academic one by himself, and an anthology of short stories with a co-editor. He currently lives in Canada but dreams of living in Portugal.
