Erik is just four years old when he loses his mother in the great earthquake that destroys Waliria, the capital of Ariok. His father, the carpenter Bertrand de Lis, and Astrid, the humble widow of a blacksmith, can’t imagine that the catastrophe will not only change their lives forever, but will make them the reluctant keepers of secrets they never wanted to have to keep.
The journey to a legendary kingdom.
After the disaster, and emboldened by a prophecy, the king decides to set out with his people on a dangerous journey to the lands to the south. A great caravan sets forth with hope, fear, and ambition in tow.
A father’s search.
Bertrand only has his son, and his sole concern is caring for him, but an unforeseen event changes the course of their lives. A good, simple man becomes the protagonist of an epic adventure, driven by his deep love for his son and his desire to be reunited with him.
