Robert Hill, author of A Few Good Words, a book of photographs and haiku, makes a departure in"Sifting The Dust from the haiku form to write powerful narratives about the intimacies of childhood experience, the heroes who peopled his youth, about friends, family, the neighborhoods, the house that he lived in, and the importance of 'place' in his life. Hill's writing is spare, unfettered and to the point. It speaks of ordinary experience. He writes, "We find the very ordinariness of our encounters unfolding into patterns we had never imagined." Much of what he addresses is living in Kentucky where he grew up, and his award-winning photographs are from that countryside. Hill lives in a small town about an hour from Louisville. His reputation in Kentucky is that of a photographer. Only in recent years has he combined photography and poetry.
