The concept for Truckman Dan began in May 2008, when creator Anton Gilfoyle worked as a truck driver for a local bread company. He noticed how the trucks moved around the factory yard like ants as they went about their business, never bumping into each other as they unloaded old bread and crates and refueled for the next day's run. As Anton looked down on the scene from one of the factory's largest vehicles, he decided this setting would make the perfect backdrop for a series of children's picture books.
