English summary: From the rediscovery of antiquity in the Renaissance, a not-always-straight path leads to modern archaeology. Archaeology is - like any other science - always a child of its time. This is reflected in the different stages of its development. If ancient art was initially primarily seen as a practical guide to personal artistic activity, the perspective changed during the 18th Century. The ancient art is now regarded as an expression of a dominant culture, and this has remained so into the present time. The 19th Century was dominated by systematic excavations and spectacular discoveries. The upheavals during the first half of the 20th Century were also accompanied by the integration of new ideas from other humanities, which fertilized archaeology as never before. This trend continues today and provides varying features to the study of the relics of the past. The gradual establishment as an independent discipline, the development of new approaches to research, the extension of the temporal and geographical horizon - all these issues are addressed in this volume. This creates a comprehensive picture of archaeology that leaves the characteristic features of this science to appear as a whole as well as in their different varieties. German text.
