This volume contains the first five of the journals marked by Søren Kierkegaard with NB and numbered from [1] to 36. This series, which he began in 1846, is continuous and has great thematic variety. However, its focus is on Kierkegaard's fundamental reflection on his own task as a ?religious writer'. Different in form from the roughly sketched early journals and notebooks, these journals ultimately establish themselves as irreducible part of the entire oeuvre. For example, the journals in DSKE 4 (from 1846 to 1848) contain the dispute with the satirical sheet ?Corsar' and the political revolution. Here Kierkegaard's central themes take on contour (the individual, the antithesis between an imitation Christianity and the existing Christianity).
