The Prussian Ministry of the Interior and Culture conducted two major surveys between 1842 and 1845. These surveys aimed at providing comprehensive insights into the social standing of Jews in their respective districts. This source edition publishes the full text of this unique survey. This material meticulously records the Jewish inhabitants of nearly 4,000 places in Prussia, including synagogues, schools and other property belonging to the Jewish community along with the legal stipulations listed for each region. At the same time, these surveys also reflect the relationship between Jewish and Christian populations as well as the motives for the Prussian official's treatment of Jewish affairs.
