Only Months After the battle of New Orleans ended, Arsene Lacarriere Latour, who was General Andrew Jackson's principal army engineer, began interviewing witnesses and key participants in order to create a comprehensive record of the battle, based on first-hand accounts. The resulting work's most significant value derives from these accounts. This expanded edition of Latour's Historical Memoir includes information left out of the original 1816 publication.
