The interconnected stories in Going to the Zoo trace the life of Grace as she struggles to find her place in the world. Moving chronologically from her smalltown youth to her urban adulthood, the stories see Grace struggle to resolve her past, locate herself in the present, and hope for a happier future. Sometimes sexy and sometimes sad, Grace and the rest of Lush's rich cast of characters move through life with tragic abandon. We first meet Grace at the age of twelve as she, her sister George and her brother Danny are moved from town to town by their restive father and nervous mother. Inheriting her father's restlessness, Grace grows up on a constant search for love and peace, not knowing that she may never be capable of finding either.
