Turkey Economic Reform and Accession to the European Union

This publication considers the progress made and remaining economic challenges facing Turkey in its quest for EU accession, including preparedness to join the Single Market, to comply with EU economic regulations and directives, the Acquis Communautaire and to meet the Maastricht criteria for fiscal, monetary, and exchange rate policies. It also examines the effects of integration on key sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, services and network industries; labour market regulation; foreign direct investment challenges; the costs and benefits of meeting the EU environmental Acquis; and the welfare effects of integration.
