In 1888, the most infamous serial killer of our age appeared, Jack the Ripper. He accumulated his list of unfortunate victims, and then vanished without a trace. He alluded capture, taunted authorities and was never identified - until twenty years later, by the man who had hunted him, London police detective Frederick Abbeline. Long after the Ripper disappeared, Abbeline found the answer to his identity, and revealed it only to one person; a young reporter, Thomas Palmer."26 High Street" is a readers' theatre play of mystery and intrigue, culminating in the moment that Abbeline passes the torch to the intrepid newsman. Chapters include the author's reflections on readers' theatre presentation, and the subject of Jack the Ripper as a literary metaphor, not just a documentary figure - plus a brief primer of the Ripper's factual history.
