What does a gerbil do when he finds himself abandoned in his house during one of the worst natural disasters to hit the United States? He counts on his store of food, runs around his cage and sniffs the air. OH! The wind! It was so loud! OH! The rain! It was so hard! Luckily, this gerbil had a very good supply of food which lasted 18 days. Then, one day, the window of his house was broken. He was discovered and rescued by animal rescuers. The rescuers named him Fillmore for the street he was found on in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Fillmore was brought to the Washington Animal Rescue League in Washington, D.C. He stayed there in his big new cage, sniffing the animal smells and admiring his big feet, Neat, neat, Ive got big feet! After two years, a family came to adopt Fillmore and he moved again. Fillmore finds some more adventure at his new home and as always keeps his store of food up, sniffs the air and loves his big feet! A wonderful story for children.
