African Americans In The Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was the first conflict in which the U.S. military fought in units that were fully racially integrated, but despite this move toward equality, African American troops seemed to suffer greater casualties in the early years of the war because they were often assigned to the front lines. African American soldiers also faced discrimination in base camps and off duty, although in the heat of battle racial differences were forgotten.
