Sabine Payr (M.A in modern languages, Ph.D. in linguistics) is author and researcher in e-Learning and media communication. Since 1987, she has been involved in interactive media in training and education, doing research and development in the field of educational technology in higher education, open and distance learning, and tele-learning in vocational training and further education. She has been working for the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence since spring 2000, in the framework of the project "An Inquiry into the Cultural Context of the Design and Use of Synthetic Actors" which led to the present book. Currently, she focuses on embodied educational agents.
