The book picks up after the events in the Commentarii de Bello Civili.Caesar's authorship of the Commentarii de Bello Alexandrino, Africo et Hispaniensi is disputed by some. The 2nd century historian Suetonius suggested Aulus Hirtius and Gaius Oppius as possible authors.
