2007 saw the completion of the Reallexikon der Germanischen Altertumskunde (Encyclopedia of Germanic Antiquity Studies / RGA). This volume, a record of the congress organized to mark this occasion, takes stock of developments and brings together the fields of archeology, history, philology and numerous natural sciences that participated in interdisciplinary discussions in the encyclopedia. The themes in the book make reference to current topics, methods and new sources, and in this way closely link the encyclopedia to scientific discussion and debate in the field. It forms a bridge between the encyclopedia and its supplemental volumes on the one hand and their continuation in the website Germanischen Altertumskunde Online on the other.
