Ancient Oregon combines three volumes providing an in-depth look at the history of Oregon's natural world. Majestic sites such as old growth forests, Crater Lake, and the Three Sisters are explored by paleontologist Chaney and geologists Williams and Hodge.
The Ancient Forests of Oregon, first printed in 1946, tells the story of great flora found in fossil records throughout the state. From sparse sagebrush to towering redwoods, the remains of plant life illustrate epic changes in the land and climate of the region.
The Ancient Volcanoes of Oregon, first printed in 1948, details the titanic forces that shaped our present-day landscape. The origins of volcanoes and history of the shifts that created some of Oregon's most famous landmarks are chronicled.
The final volume , Mount Multnomah: Ancient Ancestor of the Three Sisters, was originally published in 1925. Numerous landforms and bodies of water evolved from this active giant that once extended from Sisters to Belknap Springs and from Mount Washington to Elk Lake.
