Another Life

It is only a few hours since Peter Prendergast had a violent argument with his younger brother who has signed up to a radical form of religion since being released from prison. When he returns home he does not expect to see two policemen sitting at the front door of his farm. Nor does he expect to be accused of attacking his mother and brother and following them into the Mayo General Hospital to continue the onslaught. Every time Peter begins to understand what is happening a new shock arrives from a new direction. In the space of only two days Peter finds himself in a situation where he has to defend not only himself from a charge of murder but also the woman his brother deceived. Men like Charlie Dempsey, a reformed killer who travels around Ireland to save other men, Sergeant Patrick O'Mahony, who is dealing with his own fall from grace and Father Patrick Keane who is suffering for the sins of the Catholic Church are all participants in the struggle. The evidence that could lead an innocent man or woman being charged with murder builds slowly to an unexpected climax.
