Consistent with the goals for the APA Handbooks in Psychology™ series, the purpose of the two-volume APA Handbook of Multicultural Psychology is to present the best science and best practice within this cross-cutting perspective of psychology.
Volume 1, covering theory and research, comprises chapters concerning conceptual and professional issues, ethnic minority research and methods, individual differences, social and developmental process, and community and organizational perspectives.
Volume 2, focusing on applications and training, includes chapters covering historical and professional perspectives; stress, adjustment, and positive psychology; diagnosis and assessment; psychopathology; clinical interventions; applied and preventive psychology; and training and supervision.
Beyond providing a solid historical context, the handbook offers an up-to-date review across the major domains of psychology from a multicultural perspective.

Frederick T. L. Leong, PhD, is professor of psychology and psychiatry at Michigan State University. He is a faculty member in the organizational and clinical psychology programs. He is also the director of the Consortium for Multicultural Psychology Research at Michigan State. He has authored or coauthored more than 240 journal articles and book chapters and has edited or coedited 14 books. He is editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Counseling as well as the editor of the APA Division 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues) book series on cultural, racial and ethnic psychology. He is the founding editor of the Asian American Journal of Psychology and associate editor of the American Psychologist. Dr. Leong is a fellow of APA (Divisions 1, 2, 5, 12, 17, 29, 45, 52), the Association for Psychological Science, the Asian American Psychological Association, and the International Academy for Intercultural Research. His major research interests center around culture and mental health, cross-cultural psychotherapy (especially with Asians and Asian Americans), cultural and personality factors related to career choice, work adjustment, and occupational stress. He is past president of APA Division 45, the Asian American Psychological Association, and of APA Division 12 Section VI (Clinical Psychology of Ethnic Minorities). He received the APA award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology as well as the Stanley Sue Award for Distinguished Contributions to Diversity in Clinical Psychology from APA Division 12. He is also the recipient of the APA Division 45 Distinguished Contributions to Research award, the Division 17 International Section's Lifetime Achievement award, and the APA Minority Fellowship Program's Dalmas Taylor Distinguished Contributions award.
