Archives of the Tholsel Court, Dublin

The Tholsell Court was established for the settlement of small debts, with the [Lord] Mayor and Sheriffs of Dublin presiding. The surviving records, held in Dublin City Library & Archive, range from the early 17th to the mid-18th century, and are in secretary hand. This transcript by Bridget McCormack makes these records accessible, while the introduction by Toby Barnard contextualises the records.

Toby Barnard FBA is emeritus fellow in history at Hertford College, Oxford. Bridget McCormack is one of Ireland’s leading palaeographers.
