Art, Alienation, and the Humanities : A Critical Engagement with Herbert Marcuse

Drawing from his own published essays in edited form and unpublished and published material of Marcuse's from 1942-1998, Reitz (philosophy, service learning, Kansas City Kansas Community College) analyzes the philosopher's critical theories of alienation and art stressing the educational value of the arts. Themes include both art against alienation and art as alienation. Appends a political platform adopted in 1996 by The Kansas City Progressive Network, including educational and aesthetic rights. Includes a glossary of selected foreign terms and phrases (e.g. the German title of Marcuse's dissertation, The German Artist Novel).
