Athletries

The intent of this book is to recognize ancient women as much more than the sisters, wives, and mothers of men, which is the way they have been viewed in the past. The authors have tried to do this by focusing on an area of life that has been dominated by men. By documenting women's participation in the ancient Greek world of sports, through athletic games and festivals, they hope to give one more piece of the puzzle to reconstruct the total picture of women in history as capable, independent thinkers, and valuable contributors to society.
