This textbook is a compilation of central and representative texts taken from the German Søren Kierkegaard Edition. This first volume of the textbook contains texts from Kierkegaard's literary legacy drawn from the first three volumes of the German Søren Kierkegaard Edition. Kierkegaard's texts are reproduced with identical pagination according to the philological principles followed by the Edition, and its detailed textual commentary is also included. The texts, which are diverse in both content and form, range from autobiographical notes and literary drafts to philosophical and theological discussions and sketches for sermons. The book thus provides insight into Kierkegaard's creative life, into the genesis and uniqueness of his thinking and writing. This volume is revealing both with regard to his published works and to the importance of his posthumous papers, which represent a unique part of his complete oeuvre.
