Brian Fagan is the best-known popular writer on archaeology in the United States and an internationally recognized authority on world prehistory. Fagan is also author of many of the leading textbooks on archaeology used by thousands of college students each year, and, in a different vein, has written several popular sailing guides to the West Coast. He has been honored with the Society for American Archaeology's Public Education Award, Public Service Award, and President's Recognition Award. He received his doctorate from Cambridge University and is professor of anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara
