In the Beginning

Karlie Mayfield is an eight year old girl in Jami L. Pereira's The Adventures of Karlie Mayfield, In The Begining. The year was 1908, Karlie had a love for horses that ran deep. Her Pawpaw had planned a surprise for her birthday, until tragedy struck the Mayfield's farm. They had lived on that land for six generations. The depression had ended. Big Carl Mayfield worked the coal mines at Horse Mill Mountain. It was up to Karlie and her mama to take care of her little brother Joshua, and little sister Kimmie. Little did she know, there would be trouble lurking.
