Best Day at the Zoo

Can an illustrated children's book in rhyme place a child on a path of financial success in life?
Best Day at the Zoo does just that. Written in a rhythmic style, this book is a whimsical story about brother and sister twins who have dreamed about and saved for their day at the zoo with friends. There are many lessons in the book that touch on the concepts of saving, budgeting, planning, and donating. Choices are made along the way. Giraffes with long black tongues that eat from Skye's hand, lions that roar, and penguins that waddle spark every child's imagination. A bell ringer's kettle provides an opportunity for Skye and Rey to give to those who have less. The subtle financial literacy messaging is told through a story that children will relate to and will want read to them over and over again.

Doug Godard is the author of Best Day at the Zoo – the first in a series of books that present concepts of personal financial literacy to children through storytelling. Doug and his wife of over 35 years, Cheryl, live in Columbus, OH. Doug and Cheryl have three grown children and a grandson. After 40 years in commercial real estate, Doug shifted his energies to Bonzy Charities - a nonprofit he founded. Doug is passionate about supporting children who are economically disadvantaged and helping them reach their full potential in life. Doug is active in his Upper Arlington Rotary Club, is an avid perennial gardener, and plays a lot of Pickleball.
Nadia Ronquillo is a children's book illustrator, visual development artist, and content creator from Ecuador. She majored in graphic design and audiovisual production. She immediately started freelancing as a children's book illustrator and collaborating remotely as a visual development artist.
