Mayfair Crescent was the Wisteria Lane of Hamilton, Ontario. These personal memoirs based on the author's childhood in the 1950s and 1960s were affected by a climate of continuous tension. Each chapter contains surprise, disappointment and snippets of joy. The cruelty and bitterness which revealed itself in the personality of Mommy Dearest was unrelenting and inescapable. What seemed merely odd became terribly serious signs of dysfunction. The four children who shared a home on Mayfair thought they were happy until the divorce of their parents. Just when the dysfunction was expected to ebb with the tide, the bitterness infiltrated the next generation. Today, the word "family" doesn't mean what it once did. Hindsight has converted a regular mirror into a magnifier of powerful calibration. Today, we have moved beyond Mayfair Crescent, where the story began.
