Bleak House

A new edition to our BFI TV Classics series, this analysis of BBC's Bleak House aims to analyze this critically acclaimed production in terms of its adaptation status, narrative organization, acting, setting and mise-en-scene, while also using it to comment on more general issues in television studies.

CHRISTINE GERAGHTY is a professor of Film and Television Studies at the University of Glasgow and a part time lecturer in Film Studies at the University of London. Previous publications written and edited include Now a Major Motion Picture: Film Adaptations from Literature and Drama (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008); My Beautiful Laundrette (I.B. Tauris, 2004); British Cinema in the Fifties: Gender, Genre and the "New Look" (Routledge, 2000); The Television Studies Book with D. Lusted (Arnold, 1998) and Women and Soap Opera (Polity Press reprinted 1992 and 1999).
