They are not a bunch of statistics. They are not a female group of "genetic mishaps." They are -- and still are -- the voices of everyday, modern women struggling to survive breast cancer. They share the same diagnosis, but are a quilt of different patterns and colors with ages spanning twenty-five years. Some of them are wives and mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers; some, single or divorced. Some were active in their careers; others, retired or no longer able to work. They have different religious beliefs. They have different occupations, lifestyles, and values. Even their breast cancer was diverse, varying from Stage 0 to 4, following separate courses of surgeries and treatments. No matter what their differences are, they are B.O.O.B.S! B.O.O.B.S., A Bunch of Outrageous Breast Cancer Survivors, share their personal experiences -- from the shocking diagnosis to surgery and beyond -- and the effect breast cancer has had on the women and the people in their lives. Brought together by The Wellness Community, a program devoted to providing cost-free psychological support to cancer patients and their loved ones, the ten women in this book believe strongly in the healing power of group therapy and peer sharing. In fact, some of them have become patient advocates and spokeswomen in a quest to make a difference in the lives of other women facing the disease that afflicts more than 200,000 women each year in the U.S. alone.
