Startling Stories : Fall 2008

STARTLING STORIES! The name conjures up images and magazines of the past, our "bloody pulp" era in American literature, and when Science Fiction and Fantasy were a big part of our Popular Culture. Editor & Graphic Designer William Carney has given us the latest incarnation of this classic pulp magazine, slam-bang full of stories and art, both old and new! This first issue (Vol.2, #1) features: "The Girl in the Golden Atom" by Ray Cummings, with artwork by Robert Sankner, "To Bite The Worm" by S. Clayton Rhodes, "The Cursed Stele" by Cari Reese, "The Traveler: Wolves of Mars" by Wayne Skiver... as well as a fine article on "Margarate Brundage: Queen of Weird Tales" by K. G. McAbee, and even a new Sci-Fi comic strip "Saucy Blane" by pulp art legend Ron Wilber! We round out this issue with a small Art Portfolio featuring Ver Curtiss, the cover artist for this issue. This magazine also captures the look and feel of the "original" pulp, (including original pulp advertisements) and we hope that you enjoy this new offering of scintillating science fiction, space adventure, and weird dark menace!
