Bookworm Buddies A to Z

A celebration of the healing power of reading in the hospital, featuring children from infancy through school-age with complex health needs. Simple rhymes and vibrant, full-color photographs introduce these amazing children from A to Z, reading with family members, medical caregivers, pets and by themselves. Commentary is provided by Colleen the Cat and her pal Bookworm on each page, noting benefits of reading for bonding, language and brain development and to help children feel more comfortable and loved. An illustrated glossary describes medical devices required by these children shown in the photographs, including tracheostomies, ventilators and feeding tubes, which helps foster understanding of health differences and is ideal for STEM and DEI curricula. Recommended for age 3 and up.

Marci Chorpash is an illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA, who loves drawing bookworms and reading lots of books. Her work is featured on her website: https://www.marcichorpash.com/ Dr. John Hutton is a pediatrician, researcher and Director of the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Reading & Literacy Discovery Center. He is passionate about the power of books to build skills, brains and relationships, and to help children feel better, no matter what age or health condition. Amy McGrory, MA, CCLS is a Child Life Specialist on the Transitional Care Center (TCC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She lives with her husband in Cincinnati and has 3 grown children. Bookworm Buddies is a project near and dear to her heart, as are the patients, families and staff on the TCC. This book is dedicated to the TCC patients who have passed, and in honor of all the patients and caregivers featured in this book.
