"Breaking Barriers While Living the Dream" is much more than just the story of Lieutenant Colonel Kathy LaSauce. As a trendsetter, Kathy not only achieved many 'firsts' for women in the United States Air Force, but she also played a leading role in advancing the integration of women in all services during the 1970s. Breaking into a traditionally male-dominated career was not easy for Kathy and many other women. Her groundbreaking achievements continue to inspire generations of leaders, demonstrating that determination and a vision can shatter the glass ceiling. Her work filled a critical void in the United States Air Force history as the military expanded the integration of women into many more career fields.

Colonel Mark "Plug" Vlahos retired from the United States Air Force in 2011. During his twenty-nine-year career, he served in a wide range of operation flying and staff assignments, including command of a C-130 squadron in combat and vice wing commander of the 314th Airlift Wing at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. Mark attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Virginia State University and holds master's degrees from Webster University and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Additionally, he is a member of the Order of Daedalians, the Troop Carrier/Tactical Airlift Association, the Air Force Historical Foundation, and the Leon B. Spencer Research Team of the National World War II Glider Pilots Association. He is an expert on World War II C-47 and glider operations.
Mark is the author of three other books; "Breaking Barriers While Living the Dream" will be his fourth published work. Currently, Mark resides in New Braunfels, Texas.
