Buddhism Through American Women's Eyes

The Buddha's path to human transformation declares women and men equally capable of spiritual realization, yet throughout history most exemplars of this tradition have been men. Now, as Buddhism is transmitted to the West, women are playing a major role in its adaptation and development.

Karma Lekshe Tsomo is an associate professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego, Where she teaches Buddhism, World Religious, and Comparative Religious Ethics. She studied Buddhism in Dharamsala, India, for fifteen years and received a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Hawaii. She is a founder and past president of Sakyadhita: International Association of Buddhist Women and director of Jamyang Foundation, and innovative education project for women in developing countries. Her most recent book is Into the Jaws of Yama, Lord of Death: Buddhism, Bioethics, and Death.
