1902. The author is not a spiritualist and frankly confesses that he is strongly inclined to hold the belief in continued personal existence as capable proof and in the possibility of at least occasional communication, but he holds that the scientific method is the only method of knowledge. It is his present purpose to point out simply and plainly certain facts, and certain conclusions based on those facts, which he came to accept after years of patient study, both as a member of the Society for Psychical Research and in his own personal capacity.
