The Cassard Family of Baltimore and New Orleans

This is the story of Jean and Marguerite Marcorelles Cassard of France beginning with their marriage in Nantes and describing their adventures on the island of Saint Domingue as they raise their family and seek their fortune, only to have their ambitions thwarted by the vengeful and bloody uprising of the island's tens of thousands of black slaves. It tracks the family as misfortune scatters them to the four winds, only to finally unite in spirit if not in fact in a new world with new opportunities to pursue the family dream of financial success and security.
