Merely an enjoyable fable or a much-needed wake-up call, Chicken Nachos is both entertaining and sobering. Tongue-in-cheek tales filled with campy innuendo chronicle Maggie and Ann#xE2;#xAC;"s adventures through marriage and divorce. We#xE2;#xAC;"re enlightened as to what really happens when needy marries control. A visit to a psychic (easily dismissed as nonsense until Madame#xE2;#xAC;"s ramblings begin to ring true) foretells of children, widowhood and emotional turmoil. Dealing with infidelity, escape from reality seems Maggie#xE2;#xAC;"s only salvation and her journey as Princess Petunia begins. Facing Craig#xE2;#xAC;"s need for control, Ann struggles to retain her identity and the rest of the players soon emerge. The Wizard, Princess Petunia, Conrad and Gladiola add humor to otherwise tragic events. One is left to ponder if society truly acknowledges emotional/verbal abuse. Do we believe the depth of its damage or do we look away? What of divorce, is it fair to all the parties involved? Are we still upholding a patriarchal society? (Maybe vampires do exist.) And unbelievable as our lessons seem, they#xE2;#xAC;"re real; well, almost.
