Understanding of the causes and consequences of impairments to children's health and development has been transformed in recent years. This collection brings together key journal articles in the field on a range of issues such the relative contribution of genetics and the environment, the way in which the brain re-wires itself at critical points in a child's development and the interplay between environmental influences with the individual characteristics of the child.
